The North American dermatology community typically targets the month of May to discuss melanoma awareness. And while sun awareness and sunburn prevention are important topics, dermatology’s melanoma awareness campaigns generally ignore important points. There arguably is more misinformation about skin cancer than any other form of cancer, and most of it involves distorting the nature of skin cancer’s complex relationship with sun exposure.
Study Finds Low Vitamin D Levels in Most People With HIV

Up to 52 percent of people with HIV in a Swiss study had dangerously low vitamin D levels. The study, published in the May 15 issue of AIDS, also found that people taking non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) or the drug Viread (tenofovir) were more likely to have low vitamin D levels.… continue reading
