Researchers to probe vitamin D disease link

Further work is to be carried out on Orkney to establish the links between a lack of sunlight and serious health conditions. Researchers at Edinburgh University will test whether levels of vitamin D, which is made by the body when it is exposed to sunlight, have an effect on the development of conditions such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis and heart disease.
