A new research paper came out this week which shows that sun and sunbeds provide Vitamin D and this is far more important for overall health than a slight increased risk of skin cancer. BCC Study Does Not Implicate Professional Tanning Salons

A study promoted to the North American media Tuesday ahead of its actual publication on-line in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology should not be applied to professional tanning facilities, but more likely to severe sunburns from unsupervised usage of home tanning units — the third time in a decade that the dermatology community has failed to accurately report this important confounder in promoting a study.… continue reading

Alzheimer’s Assoc funds study of low vitamin D in brain disease

David Llewellyn, PhD, at the University of Exeter (UK) has received a $100,000 grant from the Alzheimer’s Association, among other awards, for his study of vitamin D as a potential biomarker of and therapy for dementia, brain shrinkage, and other ‘neuroimaging abnormalities’.
