In countries where sun exposure provides the equivalent of 10,000 IU a day and people have vitamin D blood levels of 105 to 163 nmol/L, autoimmune diseases (like multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus) are uncommon. Don't be scared that amounts that high are toxic: One study of healthy young men receiving 10,000 IU of vitamin D for 20 weeks showed no toxicity."

Comments from the JCTA, press release did not get a lot of traction in the media. 70% chance an election will happen this year. PC pushing NDP with gas plant problems, media has picked this up. Vote on second reading still has not happened. If second reading happens before summer break (16 days from now) there is probalby be committee meeting over the summer. The Joint Canadian Tanning Association (JCTA) tested new Facebook ads in March and the winners were Toast and 4 Ladies. The Facebook ads then redirect the consumer to specific landing page on the new JCTA educational consumer website – TanResponsibly.ca. In the March testing the ads had close to 2 million impressions in a 1 week period. continue reading

Taxing The Tan, Not The Sun in the USA

But the new law does not actually tax the rays we gather by lying in the sun. Lawmakers have not yet worked up the nerve to do that — though I believe someday they will. For now, the tax just applies to indoor tanning services. But it applies only to some of these services, delivered by only some providers, and only when the services are billed in certain ways. continue reading
