IOM Vitamin D Report: RDA Rates Triple but Canadians Levels Adequate?
A government-commissioned report issued November 30, 2010 by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) on vitamin D in North America, contained a number of strange contradictions:
A government-commissioned report issued November 30, 2010 by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) on vitamin D in North America, contained a number of strange contradictions:
- The recommended dietary allowances for vitamin D per day tripled for 1 to 50 year olds from 200 IU to 600 IU
- The recommended upper level intake of vitamin D doubled from 2,000 IU to 4,000 IU
- That the majority of Americans and Canadians are receiving adequate amounts of both calcium and vitamin D
- There is emerging evidence that too much of these nutrients may be harmful
