About the JCTA
Redefining the future of the tanning market
The JCTA (Joint Canadian Tanning Association) is a national non-profit organization created to increase understanding of the professional tanning industry’s scientifically supported position that regular moderate ultra-violet exposure from sunshine or sunbed in a non-burning fashion is part of a responsible lifestyle that recognizes both the inherent benefits and the manageable risks associated with ultraviolet light exposure.
TERMS OF REFERENCE for the Joint Canadian Tanning Association (JCTA)
- Purpose: To maintain and develop a prosperous indoor tanning industry in Canada by educating Canadians on how to maximize the benefits while minimizing the manageable risks of responsible UV exposure. We will pursue continuous improvement of the perception of tanning amongst Canadians through scientific facts and research that support indoor tanning as an intelligent, controlled choice for UV exposure.
- Objectives
- Market to Canadians on the use of sunbed for those that choice to use a sunbed.
- Educate Governments on the use of sunbeds in a professional environment
- Media Relations
- Provide educational resources and weekly updates to members.
- Funding Research & other like-minded groups.
- Set Professional Standard for the Industry.
- Work with insurance companies to provide comprehensive insurance programs.
- Work with other sunbed association from around the world.
- Meetings
- Frequency: Board meetings are as required throughout the year and an Annual General Meeting (AGM).

- Agenda: Will be sent to the Board no later than 48 hours before any meeting
- Minutes: Minutes will be taken by a recorder and sent to the board of directors within 72 hours of the last meeting.
- Committees:
- Formation: committees will be formed by the Board of Directors according to the Bylaws. Any Member in good standing can join a committee. One member of the broad or a staff member of the JCTA must be part of any committee following the Bylaws.
- Roles: Bylaws form the roles of each Committees.
- Reporting: All committee reports will be presented at the Board of Directors regular meeting.
Approval and Review:
- Approval: Terms of Reference were approved on the day of the 10th of September, 2025
- Review: Terms of Reference will be reviewed and updated every 2 years.
